INTERVIEW CRIPPLE BASTARDS

1) Quick band presentation, since when the band's up, who's playing what ? Quick discography.

Cripple Bastards is active since 1988, so it's 18 years now. The current line-up is together since 1999, the only member left from the early days is me, Giulio the Bastard (vocals). So today CB are: Al Mazzotti - drums, Der Kommissar - guitar, Schintu the Wretched - bass, Giulio the Bastard - vocals. Our discography is too long to be listed here, you can find it on our official site www.cripple-bastards.com It includes 3 albums, over 20 singles, some collective CD's compiling the singles, tons of split releases(7"/10"/LP) with other bands...

2) What's the band actuality ?

We have just finished to record some new trax at Fredman Studios in Sweden, they're supposed to go on a split 7" + comp. CD both on Relapse Records. We are also goin' on with our anthological Double DVD for Obscene Prod. which has been in the works for over 2 years now... we're editing the last chapter so the wait should be almost over.

3) Have you ever heard of OEF ? Did you play here already ? Have you been there ?

Of course I've heard of OEF, this is the 5th time we are playing there - we have been grinding that stage since the very first edition where we headlined along with Agathocles if I remember well. I myself have been there all the years, and Curby is a friend of CB since before he started to do OEF...

4) What's your feeling to come and play for the (in my opinion) nowadays best & sicker fest in the world ?

OEF is according to us the best grindcore event in the world, the feeling up on that stage isn't comparable to any other, and the audience is the best one can expect in extreme music. Simply the best!

5) What's the band main influences ? What do you usually listen to ?

Inside the band we have radically different musical tastes so it's impossible to sum up and say what we're mainly listening to.
Also, there's no specific influences... well-done original grindcore, fast HC and '80s HC/Thrash is our roots and what comes in our minds when we are writing new songs... no specific names to mention. Speaking for myself, I can say that my "matrix" in grindcore is stuff like Fear Of God, Patareni, early Napalm Death, Repulsion, Unseen Terror and so on. It's the scene I grew up with.

6) What's the first disc you ever bought ?

After years of getting shit dubbed on tape (being too broke for buying records), the first LP's I bought were Suicidal Tendencies 1st s/t LP and probably some early Beastie Boys crap... then Kreator, Slayer and so on.

7) What's the (metal) artist that gives you a good laugh / you have mercy for - and why ?

Probably Ozzy becoz he turned himself from the singer of the best rock band ever to the worst MTV retard

8) What's the best country to play in and why ? / What's the worst country to play in and why ?

The best for CB is definitely Czech Republic, some towns in Italy and the US West Coast + Mexico. We definitely love our latino-american fanatics... Worst country... it depends. We had shitty shows in Germany, Holland, Slovenia etc, but in other areas of the same countries (with a better scene) things worked much better, so it's hard to say.

9) What's the last political / news fact that you have something to say about ?

I prefer not to speak about politics becoz everytime I do it I get more people hating me, so I rather keep it for my privacy....
I'm mainly interested in politics concerning ex Yugoslavia. Speaking of Italy, I can tell that I followed with big interest the whole thing concerning the Nr. 1 Mafia boss Bernardo Provenzano being arrested after 40 years they were haunting him...

10) In your band, who's gonna be the worst drunkard at OEF ?

Probably our drummer (let's say more stoned than drunk!) but he won't be allowed until we play....

11) Who's gonna phone his wife / girlfriend to say 'hi dear, I arrived well but people here are scary!' ?

Personally I have never reputed people at OEF "scary", in 7 years of festival I've never seen a fight or any kinda bullshit there, so I repute them ways more relaxed/normal than the assholes I deal with every fucking day, sometimes I just have to go out and drive 5 minutes around here to end in situations no Obscene fanatic would ever cause. Anyway, I'll be calling my wife at least twice in 1 day to say what's goin' on as far as she's always in a bad mood when I leave. And the other members will probably call their girlfriends.. who gives a shit anyway

12) Last words - Thank you !

Enjoy the Cripple Bastards at OEF 2006 + all the other bands taking part to it ...and wait for our DVD to come out, it's been a long wait but it's almost over. Don't forget to check our site at www.cripple-bastards.com Grind on!
